Cherokee Nation is furthering its commitment to the growing film industry through a new partnership with Rogers State University, creating an academic pathway for students to earn college credit for courses completed at the tribe’s Cherokee Film Institute.

CFI is the only tribally operated education and workforce development center dedicated to preparing Native Americans for careers in the film and media industry. The hands-on, industry-standard courses equip students with the skills needed for entry-level roles, with a distinct focus on Native American representation and below-the-line production.

Rogers State University Student Veteran Center Mural Completed

According to RSU Veteran Affairs coordinator, the mural was commissioned to honor both the military history of the university, as well as past, current, and future veteran students.

“Within the mural designed are various symbolic images,” Hudson said. “Imagery for land, sea, air, and space can be found in the landscape.”

Additional details within the mural are a lone cadet in his dress uniform next to a modern serviceman. An Oklahoma scissortail can also be seen flying back in the direction of land, as birds are a symbol of land and home for sailors, Hudson added.
